Grand Tetons

After a flight from Dulles, we arrived at Jackson, picked up the rental car, and drove to the Grant Tetons.

First stop was the Craig Thomas visitor Center.

Jonah and Peggi are examining a relief map of the park

Outside there we several animal skins to examine.

Of course the views of the mountains are amazing and visible almost all the time you are in the Park.

A close up reveals the glacier that is stll tucked up on the mountain.

We arrived at our cabin in Colter Bay.

Jonah had a room on one side of the cabin.

Peggi and I had a room on the other side of the cabin.

The next morning we started the day at the Colter Bay Visitor Center.

We took a hike along the shore of Colter Bay out to the point at the end of the bay.

You can see it was a beautiful morning.

Some low hanging clouds frame the mountains visible from the point.

After the hike we drove south to Moose Junction to meet the outfitter for the raft trip.

We were driven back north to the put in location.

Jonah and Peggi walk the gangway to get on the raft.

Jonah was reluctant at first to take a turn at steering the raft but I think was quite happy once he got going.

Click Here for a short video of Jonah steering the raft.

The mountains were visible for most of the raft trip.

After the raft trip we drove to Jackson to the Bar T Ranch for a chuck wagon dinner.

The wagons start out on the highway but soon turn off on a dirt road.

Eventually you arrive at the dinner location which is a big covered pavilion.

There is a country music show with the requisite family humor.

There was a very well organized dinner buffet.

Along the way there are mountain men and "Native Americans" that ride fast and daring arounds the wagons.

This was a lot more fun that I thought it was going to be.
