June 13
Morning game drive along Mbalageti River
Visit to Oldupai Gorge
Return to
Ngorongoro Highlands

On the way out of the park and back to the Ngorongoro Highlands we passed a male lion perched on a rock.

This was an amazing animal to see so close and personal.

I wonder if we were starting to look good to him as if he's licking his lips in anticipation of eating us.
What a face!
After our lion sighting we continued to the Oldupai Gorge visitor center and museum.

Excavations in the early twentieth century by the famous archaeologist, Dr Louis Leakey, uncovered some of the earliest remains of fossil hominids at Olduvai.

Seventeen years after the first discovery of human forms, Leakey’s wife, Mary, discovered the unmistakable fossilized footprints of a human ancestor who had walked along a riverbank three million years ago.
We attended an interesting lecture about the site while overlooking the gorge.
Stopped for another overlook view of the Ngorongoro Crater on the way back to the Tloma Mountain Lodge.
Back to urban Africa.
Our cabin at the lodge.
It was nice to be back in a sizable room with electricity and showers whenever you wanted.
